After defeating the Denagothians, the heroes had some decisions to make. It was decided readily that rather than interrogate their foes, they would bring them to the clerics and swordmasters of Fort Nione, the war college. A lengthy discussion then was started by Aedin Ashai, who openly wondered if the body of the sprite Mercy killed should be returned to the local The Good Neighbors. The illusionist assumed that they would be overjoyed at the kindness and would ally with the band of mortals. This idea was eventually discarded as fey tend to reincarnate so the return of the corpse of a minor fey wouldn’t be very impressive to the sidhe.

Whilst caught up in their debates, two worgs managed to sneak right up to them and launch a surprise attack. As it turns out they are part of the advance scout s that Mercy and Brakk Bastardsson belong to. Their rescue goes south and so a howl for reinforcements goes up. When it becomes evident that an entire pack of worgs are about to descend on them, the band decides to flee. They briefly consider leaving Brakk and Mercy behind as they would just slow them down but Zadekiel reminded them that they were aligned to Goodness and leaving someone helpess to ravening worgs is hardly a good act.

A lively chase ensues over fallen logs, through brambles, past pixie-led paths, swinging through trees and past fields of unicorns. Larrimal Tav makes it to the Fort in time to beset knights on the worgs and save the band from almost certain death. Once inside the safety of the enclosure, they hand over their prisoners and inform Zad’s mentor, [Velspin Evertrue], of what had transpired. Rangers are dispatched to clear the woods and cleric’s interrogate the prisoners with Zone of Truth spells.

While waiting around for the all clear, Summeri “Summer” Ashai realized her hero and future mentor, [Celebrist] was around here somewhere and went off to find him. She mistook a different instructor for her crush and flirted with the wrong person. Mostly the band talked about demanding to see the king to warn him of the admittingly very small amount of information they had, then Aedin and Bjorkin decided the Keeper of Fiery Champion’s shrine, [Evereth], must be a traitor as he wasn’t moving fast enough to suit them (pissing of Zadekiel), then they decided they could do a better job interrogating the prisoners but were rebuffed.

After checking with Larrimal, Aedin realized that if there were a Denagothian invasion underway then it would most likely be happening at Surewatch Keep. He convinced the resident falconer to borrow a hawk, Sûlwen, to fly to the Keep and report back utilizing his and his sister’s gnomish abilities to speak with animals. Sûlwen reported back that there were signs of a battle and it seems that Wendarian forces still stand.

Many hours later, mostly waiting on Sûlwen’s to fly the 32 mile round-trip scouting mission, Keeper Evereth deemed that the woodlands were safe for everyone to return. As he was needed at the shrine he offered for he and his retinue to accomopany- a great honor. The heroes were suspicious of the offer and hemmed and hawed until they became insulting. Evereth insisted they leave, with or without him and they eventually decided with and returned to the celebration.

They danced, ate and made merry. Zadekiel was given the honor to join the Keeper and his assistants in the Adàn Dainyàs rituals. Bjorkin leaped the bonfire flames and had a very good night indeed with an impressed elven maiden. The next day broke with the grand melee for the Wild Knight. In the midst of it all a great cloud overtook the sun- a cloud composed of hundreds of thousands of bats. Hidden from most, save Zadekiel, a shadowy colossal wyrm flew above the cloud headed straight towards Wendar (City). The game ended with some thousand bats swirling down from the chittering cloud like fluttery tornadoes attacking the celebrants below.

Signs Everywhere

We resume at the fields where the Maeglindë blade singing duels where being held. Summeri “Summer” Ashai and Tala Hankelthorn were both nursing monstrous hangovers. Albryce, a childhood friend and mild rival of Aedin Ashai‘s joined them and was eventually persuaded to share a vial of A"lchemist’s Kindness":—-final/goods-and-services/herbs-oils-other-substances#TOC-Alchemist-s-Kindness with Summer.

After being revived, the group headed over to the Quintain lists and tried their hand against the animated hobgoblin targets. Aedin, Summer and Bjorkin made decent showings of themselves but Summer’s skill with the blade was in evidence and she qualified for the next round while Aedin was knocked out cold. Just as Sumer went to check on her brother, the quintain goblins they had just sparred, and only those targets, attacked anew. The battle was ferocious and in the end, with aid from Larrimal Tav and both Zadekiel and his fellow cleric, Fionn Cúrúlil, they defeated the animated goons. Larrimal immediately desired to study the targets to see why they had malfunctioned but was prevented from doing so, being sent to Serenity Glen to heal up.

After some minor investigation, with the help of Albryce, they learned that the elven wizard responible for the Quintain goblin fiasco was being detained by officials at Fort Nione, the War College. Zadekiel offered to put them in touch with the officials to get more information. Whilst traversing the path to the college the grouop had their first call to heroism.

One of the The Good Neighbors, a tiny sprite, was being pounded into paste by a crazed human woman wielding a warhammer named Mercy. Battle was enjoined as the woman threatened the group and was enjined by her “brother”, one of the Brute Men, named Brakk Bastardsson. Brakk wore heraldic insignia of a red wyvern on a black background and otherwise seemed to be a knight of some sort.

The fight was fierce but relatively short. Bjorkin was deadly once he joined the fray. Aedin’s spellwork did much to lend victory for the newly blooded heroes and his sister’s blade was well whetted with the blood of evil doers. During the battle it came out that the interlopers where from Denagoth, that dark and mysterious northern country. They also learned that their gifts from Illuistar seemed to glow in relation to the presence of the denagothians. They also managed to find Darion Nimloth Nortoromë near dead nearby and Zadekiel brought him back to health.

Finally all together and with two unconscious captives in tow, they moved on to Fort Nione.

The Land Reborn
Rebirths, like actual birth, can be hard...

It is the Adàn Dainyàs, a religious event that occurs in Wendar only once every fifty years. The game begins with the Scarlet Procession, a parade of woodland folk, elves and men carrying banners and dragon skins all dressed in red marching through the Scarlet Groves. Bjorkin has just come to his senses as the dagger that had been possessing him has left through another enabler (or sucker). Lost and confused he stumbles across the parade and follows it cautiously.
In the parade itself are Aedin Ashai and his sister Summeri “Summer” Ashai. She has apparently won the honor to represent their village, Laurianta, in some sort of Grand Melee tournament. Meanwhile, not interested in partaking in the festivities, Larrimal Tav wandered about the merchant area where weaponsmiths, armorers, dragon paraphanelia hawkers, and food vendors were setting up.
While admiring the craftsmanship of some animated quintain targets, he is approached by a Faerie Seer named Illuistar, who charges him with dispensing magic items to select people with a destiny to avert a crisis that was coming. The parade comes to a close and the participants gather about the central menhir in the shrine of Fiery Champion. As the people raise their voices in song and the names of the heroic dead are recited, Zadekiel did his small part aiding the senior clerics and the shrine’s Keeper in officiating the first ceremony.
What follows over the next two days are more ceremonies at the shrine coupled with qualifying lists of duels, archery and a Grand Melee which will help decide which fighters will represent players in a few passion plays in honor of Fiery Champion. The first passion play, Birth Into Battle recounts the myth of Fiery Champion’s birth. Afterwards there was a banquest and dancing. The game ended on the 5th day of Adàn Dainyàs with Blade Song duels, quintain duels, Caber tossing and bear wrestling.
